Yep, I'm huge, and I can't say it's all camera angles. I also apologize for the rambling, but I'm much better at playing the strong, silent type.

I Sway Towards Pessimism

In the last jam of the Brawler/Siren bout on Sunday, I remarked to a teammate that we did exactly what we didn't want to do...let the Sirens score the most points on us this season. She replied, "But this is the most points we've scored yet." True.

I've spent a lot of time this season looking at the dark side of things. Somebody has to, I'm good at it, and as co-captain and former bench-warmer, why shouldn't it be me? Sunday's bout gave me a lot of reasons to look at the bright side, though.

We did score 104 points, almost more than we had scored in our first two bouts put together. I haven't seen jammer stats yet, but I know I had a 7-point jam to help with that. The Beast is back! Our blocker stats improved across the board. Sinister Sista had a particularly impressive showing, including a beautiful jammer-take-out on Dementia that has somehow ended up on YouTube. One of the Sirens put me into the front row, and even though that's not a bright side for me or the girl I landed on, it is a bright side for the league because it didn't happen much last year. We are all improving!

So I promise to keep a positive spin on the Brawler's 0-3 season, and look toward the playoffs in August with all the optimism I can stomach. Congrats to the Bosses going 3-0! If we stick with the seeded tournament for playoffs like the league has discussed, the Bosses get the privilege of taking on the new and improved Brawlers.

Am I a Movie Star?

As I was working on my Amazing Race application this morning, I came across the question, "Have you ever appeared in a publicly released film or video of any sort?". Well, let's see...when I was playing football for the Austin Rage, we had a documentary filmmaker follow us around for a while. He even interviewed me at MPOW one day, and I babbled on and on about breaking stereotypes and other optimistic crap. So I can see why I would end up on the cutting room floor, but since I haven't seen the finished product, I'm not sure if I have appeared in a publicly released film or video.

That made me curious to find out if anyone had seen the finished product, and I found the "Playing with RAGE" trailer on YouTube. Boy, did that bring back some memories! I didn't spot myself in any of the clips, but it still looks awesome. It won an award at a Memphis film festival in October of 2006. Maybe we will see it in Houston soon.

Me-ouch!

Nobody out there has come forward with video or pictures of my foot flopping around on the end of my leg, so I must link to someone else's video. This is EXACTLY what my ankle looked like when I broke it, minus the roller skate pulling my foot further down. And my leg was not that hairy YET.

Check Out My Video...

I finally uploaded the video where I tear my ACL playing tackle football. If you want to watch, I'm lined up at tight end on the right side with a wing beside me that runs a pass route. I fall back to block the defensive end, then just fall. Before I fall, you can see my knee doing its Exorcist impersonation. When I get up, our two shortest coaches help me off the field. I also included my post-game commentary where I confidently proclaim I will play on it next week (HA!), and my husband telling me to hurry because my fan club is starving.

Good stuff! It's easy to have a sense of humor about it five years later.

More Good News about Last Week

One thing I forgot to mention in the post about my bad week was that Fox 26 was filming at practice and my team decided that I should be the Brawler interviewee. Sorry, but I also failed to mention that it aired on Fox Sports Xtra last night. No complaints on my interview clip (I'm just a big, dorky librarian anyway), but the sports guy included the clip of me taking out my teammate. I feel so much better now that the moment is immortalized, and sarcasm is just one of the services we offer.
