Banned Books Week

Every once in a while, I remember I'm a librarian, and as such, I have a duty to the profession.  Banned Books Week is one of those times.  Thankfully, I'm not a public or school librarian who has to regularly deal with challenges, but I did attend a religious high school that occasionally confiscated my reading material.  We're talking some very racy stuff, too!

I'm not going to jump on my libertarian soapbox and start yelling about rights, because that's just not me.  I will encourage you to read my personal favorite on the list of the most challenged books of 2005, Forever by Judy Blume.  My mom bought it for me way back in the 1980's when it first came out, and it pretty much summed up the teenage angst I was feeling.  I know I read it more than once.  How trashy!
